On 1 July 2012, CEMBUREAU welcomed the Serbian Cement Industry Association (CIS) as an Associate Member of the Association.

On 2 July 2012, CEMBUREAU welcomed Koen Coppenholle as the new Chief Executive of the Association. He takes over from Jean-Marie Chandelle who retired at the end of June 2012.

CEMBUREAU is in the process of developing a vision of a low carbon European cement industry for 2050 and beyond.

On 21 September 2012, CEMBUREAU responded to a European Commission consultation relating to smart regulation in the EU. In its response, the Association stressed the need for legislation that is predictable, provides legal certainty and is consistent.

On 19 October 2012, CEMBUREAU responded to a European Commission consultation relating to Options for Resource Efficiency Indicators. In its response, the Association highlighted the need for resource efficiency indicators to address a variety of issues, including access to resources, abundance and scarcity as well as geographical considerations.

CEMBUREAU, the European cement association, has taken note with great interest of the Commission’s Report on the state of the European carbon market, launched on 14 November 2012.

In December 2012, CEMBUREAU Deputy Chief Executive, Claude Loréa, was nominated Convenor of the CEPMC Sustainability Working Group.

On 4 January 2013, CEMBUREAU responded to the European Commission consultation on the review of existing legislation on VAT reduced rates. In its response, the Association stressed the need to maintain reduced VAT rates in the construction sector, particularly given the severe impact of the financial crisis on the sector.

On 10 December 2012, CEMBUREAU submitted its views in relation to the ‘Energy-efficient buildings PPP beyond 2013 – Research & Innovation Roadmap’, highlighting the need to ensure material neutrality within proposals relating to construction products, rather than referring to the perceived advantages of specific materials.
