In mid February 2012, the European Commission launched the process for transformation of relevant parts of the Cement, Lime and Magnesium Oxide BREF into Best Available Techniques (BAT) Conclusions under the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED).

On 29 March 2012, the third and final meeting regarding the ecodesign of industrial and laboratory furnaces and ovens, including cement kilns will be held in Brussels. In this respect, CEMBUREAU has learnt that a draft final report is due to be published shortly.

On 6 February 2012, the Industry, Trade and Research Committee (ITRE) of the European Parliament adopted rapporteur Romana Jordan Cizelj’s (Group of the European People's Party [Christian Democrats], Slovenia) draft opinion on the EU’s Biodiversity Strategy.

In February 2012, the European Commission published on its website a report entitled ‘Design, implementation and cost elements of Green Infrastructure (GI) projects’.

On 13 February 2012, the European Commission published a Communication entitled “Innovating for Sustainable Growth: A Bioeconomy for Europe”.

On 17 February 2012, the codified Environmental Impact Assessment Directive entered into force.
