CEMBUREAU responds to consultation on Sustainable Competitiveness of the construction sector

CEMBUREAU has responded to the European Commission’s online stakeholder’s consultation with the aim of preparing a Communication on the Sustainable Competitiveness of the construction sector and its enterprises. In its response, the Association highlighted the trends in terms of output in the construction industry, indicating that the fall in cement, concrete and construction sector output is due mainly to the lack of new investments, stringent crediting conditions or the unavailability of financing by private banks, governmental debt-cutting measures and the rise in unemployment, and lower household disposable income. In addition, it highlighted the need for investment in research and innovation as well as the fact that public construction projects can combat the negative effects of the downturn and spur growth.

CEMBUREAU also called for appropriateness, consistency and coherence in regulations and directives.
