BREF

The BATⁱ (Best Available Techniques) Reference Document (BREF) covering the cement and lime manufacturing industries was the first of the BREFs to be reviewed.  The document reflects an information exchange carried out under Article 16(2) of Council Directive 96/61/EC (IPPCⁱ Directive)

The Information and Exchange Forum (IEF), chaired by the European Commission under the EU’s IPPC Industrial Pollution Directive, adopted the Cement & Lime BREF (Best Available Technique Reference Document) in April 2009. CEMBUREAU is satisfied with the outcome, in particular on energy efficiency requirements and NOxⁱ BATAELS (Best Available Technique Associated Emission Levels).

On 25 June 2010 the BREF was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. This follows its adoption, on 18 May, by the European Commission.
