Health & Safety

Comprehensive Health Risk Study (CHRS)

The Comprehensive Health Risk Study (CHRS) was launched by CEMBUREAU, in 2005. The study is composed of several elements including an updated survey of the literature on the question, a measurement study on workers’ exposure to dust in the construction and construction industry, a toxicological study carried out in two phases, one involving in-vitro tests, the other ex-vivo tests, a European prospective lung function monitoring study and a French mortality study.

European Social Dialogue Agreement (ESDA)

Crystalline silica is an essential component of materials which have an abundance of uses in industry and are vital in many products and objects we use everyday: Although crystalline silica is ubiquitous in nature, the inhalation of fine dust containing a proportion of it may constitute a hazard that is limited to the workplace.

REACH (registration, evaluation, restrictions and authorisation of chemicals), the new EU regulation on chemicals, was adopted on 18 December 2006 and came into force on 1 June 2007.

Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

Safety data sheets are the key tool for hazard and risk management communication in the supply chain under REACH.

Classification, Labelling & Packaging (CLP)

Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of chemical substances and mixtures (CLP) entered into force on 20 January 2009. The CLP Regulation harmonises requirements concerning the classification, labelling and packaging of chemical substances and mixtures in line with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) approved by the United Nations.
