REACH (registration, evaluation, restrictions and authorisation of chemicals), the new EU regulation on chemicals, was adopted on 18 December 2006 and came into force on 1 June 2007.

Safety data sheets (SDS) were introduced by Directive 91/155/EC and are the key tool for hazard and risk management communication in the supply chain under REACH.
