Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures was published in the Official Journal on 31 December 2008 (CLP Regulation) and entered into force on 20 January 2009. This Regulation implements the GHSi (United Nations Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals) in Europe. The new classification system will become mandatory for cement clinker as of 1 December and for cement as of 1 June 2015. Of particular interest to the cement industry are:

CLP: consolidated version now available
A consolidated version of the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures Regulation, which takes into account European Commission Regulations (EC) No 790/2009 and (EU) No 286/2011, is now available online.
November 2011 - C&L Cement and Clinker: potential change in sensitiser category
On 1 December 2012, the CLPi Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008), which contains the new system for classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, will undergo a modification which will make it possible to split the classification sensitiser category 1 (currently used classification for Portland cement clinker and common cements) into:
September 2010 - Implementation of the CLP Regulation: CEMBUREAU produces C&L and SDSi Package
This package, produced by CEMBUREAU, contains a proposal, as approved by the CEMBUREAU board on 28 September, for the classification and labelling of Portland cement clinker and common cements under the new Regulation on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLPi, Regulation 1272/2008). This classification will now be used by all CEMBUREAU members as of 1 December 2010 for Portland cement clinker and 1 December 2012 for common cements. Read more
