Common language
In response to the need for more sustainable construction, new concepts, phrases, terms and expressions are being used in the construction industry across Europe. The European Concrete Platform (ECP) working together with the Architects Council of Europe (ACE) believed it valuable to gather together these terms and establish a ‘working’ glossary of the concepts currently in use in a concise, easily accessible form. |

Energy performance of buildings
The operation of buildings represents 40% of the total energy consumption in Europe. The main energy benefit of using concrete in buildings is its high thermal mass that leads to thermal stability. This saves energy and produces a better indoor climate/environment for building occupants and users. |
